Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Cast And Crew Don’t Mind The Last Jedi Backlash

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been a critical and commercial success for the Star Wars franchise, however, the film has also become one of the most divisive films in the Skywalker saga. While there are those who praise the film for taking risks that take the franchise to new directions, some fans complain about the film's subversion of fan expectations and its alleged misuse of legacy characters.

Now, Star Wars is moving on to the next chapter of the saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and according to the film's cast and crew, they've long since made peace with the backlash brought about by The Last Jedi.

Vanity Fair writer Lev Grossman just recently wrote a lengthy piece about his experience speaking with the cast and crew of The Rise of Skywalker. Taking to Reddit to participate in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session (via ComicBook.com), Grossman was asked by a fan if he noticed if the backlash on The Last Jedi affected the production in anyway.

"I didn't hear a lot about the fan backlash [to be honest]," the journalist responded. "I got the sense people had made their peace with it. Mostly people seemed emotionally wrung out -- filming this movie was intense for them, it was a big part of their lives and they kind of can't believe it's over."

While The Last Jedi's detractors might be very vocal online, readers shouldn't forget that the film also has quite a number of supporters who enjoyed the film for its risk-taking qualities and for its bold messages.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
