Star Wars: The Mandalorian Series Rumoured To Star Taika Waititi And Bryce Dallas Howard

Last week, Lucasfilm released the very first photo of Jon Favreau's upcoming Star Wars live-action series, The Mandalorian. Along with the first photo came an official announcement on the studio's Star Wars website, naming the episode directors for the upcoming series.

Not only did Favreau manage to nab Star Wars animated series veteran Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) for his brand new show, he also tapped Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dopes), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople).

Now, according to Discussing Film, word on the mill has it that Waititi and Howard might also have some acting roles in Favreau's The Mandalorian. While there isn't any information on the character that Howard might play in the upcoming series, rumor has it that Waititi will be voicing a droid on the show. Neither of the directors will be taking on leading roles, possibly because it would distract them from working on the episodes assigned to them.

Of course, as with all rumors, Star Wars fans ought to take this new report with a grain of salt until they receive some sort of confirmation from Lucasfilm or from Favreau himself.

However, while fans shouldn't take the report too seriously, it doesn't seem farfetched that Waititi would voice a droid in The Mandalorian.

After all, the New Zealand director does have a propensity for playing cameo roles in his various projects. In Thor: Ragnarok the filmmaker played four different characters including the loveable rock-like alien, Korg. He's also appeared in nearly all of his different indie movies including What We Do In The Shadows, Boy, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Meanwhile, Howard has also had a lot of experience acting. The filmmaker is mostly known for her role as Claire Dearing in the Jurassic World franchise.

The Mandalorian is now in production and is expected to launch sometime in 2019 on Disney's streaming service.
