Star Wars Reveals Palpatine Corrupted Kylo Ren Through Force Bonds

Before the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars believed that Supreme Leader Snoke had been the reason why Ben Solo turned towards the Dark Side despite his training under his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Star Wars: Episode IX, however, revealed that it was all Palpatine's doing. He was the mastermind behind the rise of the First Order, he had been using Supreme Leader Snoke like a puppet.

Now, Star Wars goes into further detail about how exactly Palpatine was able to influence Han Solo and Leia's wayward son. Lucasfilm just recently published an in-universe Star Wars fact book called Secrets of the Jedi. The book which is supposedly written by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker details the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force and the Force powers associated with it (via Screen Rant).

The book discusses a power that fans get to hear about in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the Force Bond. Surprisingly, Luke Skywalker considers this skill a Dark Side power, explaining that Force Bonds are used to corrupt a target.

"On occasion, the Force allows us to connect with another living being and communicate with them across great distances, seeing what they see, and feeling what they feel. Though this may seem like a harmless - and perhaps even valuable - ability, it is easily manipulated by those on the dark side," the book explains.

"Some powerful Force users have been able to create secret bonds with others who are unaware of their connection," it continues, "They then use these bonds to corrupt their target and steer their actions. Even if the unwanted bond is detected, it can still be extremely difficult to break."

Not only did Snoke build a Force bond with Kylo Ren, but he also built one between Rey and the wayward Ben Solo. That's the reason why Kylo Ren just couldn't shake his tie with the Jakku orphan – not in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and not in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
