Star Wars’ Mark Hamill Receives The SDCC Icon Award

Mark Hamill's always been a Star Wars legend. Now, he's a San Diego Comic-Con International Icon Award winner too.

Speaking with fans at a panel at this year's SDCC (via Digital Spy), Star Wars' legendary Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill was awarded the Icon Award from the organizers of the convention. For those who aren't familiar with the Icon Award, the prize acknowledges individuals who have spread the comic book culture and arts to wider audiences, something we all know Hamill to be guilty of.

Not only is Hamill known for his work in the Star Wars franchise, but the actor is a legendary voice-actor as well, lending his talents to voice the Joker in DC series like Batman: The Animated Series and to voice other animated characters like Ozai from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

"If it weren't for you, I certainly wouldn't be standing here," he said to fans. "I started coming to these cons years before I met George [Lucas]. I remember I was at the con when they said did you hear there's going to be 5,000 people this year? And we were like wow, how many women? So, I thank you very, very much. I want you to remember I am your buddy until the end."

It seems like Hamill's been making the rounds at SDCC before joining the Star Wars franchise. It's definitely amazing to see how devoted the Star Wars legend has been to the convention.

While it's such a shame that Lucasfilm decided against sharing its secrets for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during the weekend, we're hoping that we get to learn about Hamill's last Star Wars movie soon, perhaps during Disney's D23.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
