Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Movie Reportedly Gets A Screen Writer And Script

Star Wars might be taking a break after the release of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, but that doesn't mean that Lucasfilm is going to stop making Star Wars movies.

Not only is the studio working on a couple of trilogies (one by Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff; one by Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson), but rumor has it that Lucasfilm is going to bring the Knights of the Old Republic to the big screen.

According to a report by BuzzFeed,Avatar and Shutter Island writer Laeta Kalogridis has just been hired by Lucasfilm to write a script based on the popular game, Knights of the Old Republic. Sources familiar with the project indicate that Kalogridis is close to completing the first draft of the film of what could be a brand new trilogy for the Star Wars franchise.

The script writer was hired back in 2018 to develop the project, and because Kalogridis is the one working on the script, we doubt that the Game of Thrones showrunners would actually set their trilogy in the same era as the Knights of the Old Republic.

For those who aren't familiar with the game, the Knights of the Old Republic is a role-playing videogame set in the Star Wars universe 4000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire.

This is definitely exciting news – though fans shouldn't be that surprised. Kennedy did say that Lucasfilm was going to look a developing a Knights of the Old Republic movie though she wasn't quite sure "where things might fall."

Let's wait and see whether the movie really does come to life.

Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release December 20, 2019.
