Star Wars’ J.J. Abrams on Whether It was Harder to Start or End the Sequel Trilogy

Star Wars director J.J. Abrams has had quite the experience working for Lucasfilm. Not only did the filmmaker reignite the passion for the galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Abrams is also set to bring the sequel trilogy to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Speaking in a group interview with the cast of Episode IX to help promote the new Star Wars movie (via ComicBook.com) Abrams was asked which he found harder, starting the sequel trilogy, or ending it. According to Abrams, working on The Rise of Skywalker is actually much harder than working on The Force Awakens.

"Not starting it," he said. "Wrapping it up for sure, because there [are] nine movies, and the responsibility is much greater. Starting something isn't necessarily easy, but its' far easier because the possibilities of what happens are everywhere."

We wouldn't really blame Abrams for his answer. Not only is The Rise of Skywalker supposed to serve as the end of the sequel trilogy, but it's also supposed to serve as the culmination of the Skywalker saga. There are a lot of reasons why Abrams ought to take Episode IX seriously.

Star Wars fans have a lot of questions for The Rise of Skywalker. Will Rey (Daisy Ridley) turn to the Dark Side? Will Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) find some sort of redemption in the movie? How is Emperor Palpatine going to return in Episode IX? Will we see the physical form of Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker?

Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
