Star Wars is Trying to Turn Obi-Wan’s High Ground Meme Into a Serious Thing

Star Wars fans might love Obi-Wan Kenobi, but for the past few years, everyone's been making fun of the Jedi Knight's obsession with the high ground, turning it into all sorts of memes and GIFs.

In Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, fans get to see Obi-Wan finally facing a fallen Anakin Skywalker on the planet of Mustafar. The Jedi Knight is able to best his former Padawan, however, he doesn't really want to kill Anakin at all. Kenobi then tries to force Anakin to surrender, reminding him that he has the higher ground. Anakin doesn't listen though and is in turn, cut down.

For years fans have been making fun of the "high ground" bit, and now, it looks like Star Wars is trying to reinforce the idea of the "high ground" in Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

In the latest episode of the show, fans get to see a scene where the Mando (Pedro Pascal) and a rookie bounty hunter find themselves being attacked from afar by Fennec Shand (Ming Na-Wen). When the Mandalorian comes up with a plan, the rookie asks how they can be sure whether Shan might not change her position in the dune.

According to Mando, the assassin won't move because she wouldn't want to give up the high ground.

It might seem like a simple nod to The Revenge of the Sith, but according to Screen Rant,Star Wars also adds a similar nod to the high ground in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when one of the Kashyyyk Stormtroopers proudly reminds his comrades that "at least we have the high ground."

The galaxy far, far away certainly seems to be taking the high ground seriously.
