Star Wars Insider Gives Us Closer Look At Kylo’s Kintsugi Helmet And Knights Of Ren

Lucasfilm might not be marketing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in earnest just yet, but new images from the highly anticipated sequel trilogy entry are already making the rounds online, teasing exciting new details from the movie.

Thanks to a new cover for Star WarsInsider, fans get to see more of Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) repaired mask looming over a battalion of First Order stormtroopers and a handful of Knights of Ren.

There's a lot to digest in this new poster. It's long since been rumored that Kylo Ren would appear with a repaired version of his helmet, and now we get to see it all glued up together with some sort of red adhesive.

The style reminds us of Kintsugi/ Kintsukuroi, the Japanese art of fixing up broken pottery by mending the broken area with lacquer mixed or dusted with powdered silver, gold, or platinum. The philosophy behind this art is treating breakage and repair as the open history of an object. Rather than disguising the broken object, Kintsugi celebrates its beauty.

However, knowing Kylo Ren, the fixed up helmet must represent something darker within the wayward son of Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

Aside from Kylo Ren's helmet, we also get to see a better look at the Knights of Ren. The Knights of Ren were teased in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, however, the characters were never really explored in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy. We're hoping that Episode IX fixes that.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
