Star Wars Finally Reveals How Palpatine Survives Death Star Fall

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might not have given the full details of how Emperor Palpatine managed to survive his harrowing death in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but it looks like the novelization of Episode IX is finally offering fans an answer.

According to Screen Rant, the novelization of The Rise of Skywalker offers readers important details about how Palpatine survives his fall down the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. In the scene where Rey (Daisy Ridley) is given the offer to partake in the Sith Ritual, a passage appears revealing that Rey has visions of Palpatine's past. The visions begin with Darth Sidious being thrown down the Death Star and the passage goes on to explain how Palpatine survives the fall.

"Plagueis had not acted fast enough in his own moment of death. But Sidious, sensing the flickering light in his apprentice, had been ready for years. So the falling, dying Emperor called on all the dark power of the Force to thrust his consciousness far, far away, to a secret place he had been preparing. His body was dead, an empty vessel, long before it found the bottom of the shaft, and his mind jolted to a new awareness in a new body - a painful one, a temporary one."

It turns out that Palpatine used all of his ability to transfer his consciousness to what we assume is Exegol. We're not exactly sure what vessel Palpatine used to transfer his consciousness to, but we believe that the Emperor may have prepared a few clones or bodies in Exegol before Return of the Jedi.
