Star Wars Fans Have Seemingly Discovered Matt Smith’s Role In Episode IX

Earlier this year, word came out that Doctor Who alum Matt Smith would be joining Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away this year, appearing in Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker. There were a lot of speculative fan theories going around – that is until the British actor himself revealed that he wasn't going to be in Episode IX.

Despite this revelation, one Star Wars fan continues to hold on to the hope that Smith will appear in the upcoming Star Wars movie, and it looks like there's some evidence to keep that hope alive.

A picture of a trading card for The Rise of Skywalker has been going around online and the picture on the chard shows a blue-colored character wearing a mask in what seems to be a jungle setting. The caption on the trading card names this character as a "new face," and Star Wars fans on Twitter have been suggesting that the facial features seem to match with Smith's.

Check out the image down here:

If the theory is true that this "new face" is actually Smith, then the Doctor Who actor's character in Episode IX won't be a First Order General/officer like what fans initially expected. Instead, he'll most likely be an ally of the Resistance, or a native of a planet where Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac) and the rest of the team are going to find themselves wandering around in for a mission in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
