Star Wars: Episode IX ‘Poster Leak’ Debunked By Mark Hamill

Yesterday, an alleged promotional image for Star Wars: Episode IX started making the rounds online, wowing fans with new looks at the characters of the upcoming Star Wars sequel trilogy entry.

While the poster didn't feature a full title for Episode IX, popular Star Wars fansite Making Star Wars said that the image seems like an early concept design or a rough draft of a publicity image for the upcoming film.

In the poster we get to see Kylo Ren wearing his old helmet, Rey in all-white wielding a blue lightsaber, new characters reportedly to be played by Naomi Ackie and Keri Russell, as well as the Knights of Ren.

However, as exciting as this poster might sound, it might not be all that real. Taking to Twitter, Mark Hamill himself has debunked the image, saying that the poster is nothing more than intricate fan-made art, laughing off at the idea of C-3Po holding a deadly weapon in the image. Hamill's tweet came as a response to a fan asking the Star Wars legend whether or not the poster was legitimate promotional material for Episode IX.

"I'm pretty sure that's just the (wonderful) work of a passionate fan," Hamill told the fan.

"Did 3PO with a bowcaster give it away?" a fan responded to the Star Wars actor's tweet and Hamill came back: "Thanks for pointing that out- I missed it at first!" alongside a laughing emoji.

Guess the poster was nothing but a fan-made piece after all. Such a shame, considering how excited it got the fanbase.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
