Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Reveals That Palpatine Created Rey And Kylo Ren Connection

Lucasfilm might be careful not to let any of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's secrets out into the public before the film's big premiere later this year, however, that hasn't really stopped fans from cooking up all sort of theories about Episode IX. One of the most reason theories to make the rounds online tries to explain the connection between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), putting the blame on Palpatine.

Rey and Kylo Ren might have been connected to one another in Star Wars: The Last Jedi through the machinations of Snoke, however, that connection was soon cut off after Rey decided to fly away from Crait together with the Resistance. Now, a new theory that's been making the rounds on Reddit blames the connection between the two on Sheev Palpatine, saying that it was the Emperor who induced visions of Rey in Kylo Ren before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These visions are what influenced the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) to find Rey and persuade her to join the Dark Side.

This theory builds upon a leak by Making Star Wars saying that Darth Sidious wanted to use Kylo Ren and Rey as a "dyad" that could be used to siphon off Force energy so that he could return to full power after hiding for so long. It's an interesting theory, to say the least, though we can't be really sure whether it's going to be proven true in Episode IX. There are so many ways the film can turn out, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
