Star Wars: Episode IX Rumor Suggest That Palpatine Lives In Vader's Helmet

Star Wars fans were pretty surprised when Lucasfilm released the very first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only did the video tease the battle between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley), it also teased the unexpected return of a classic Star Wars villain – Darth Sidious.

While Lucasfilm's been trying its best to keep Episode IX's secrets under wraps, fans have been busy trying to explain Emperor Palpatine's return. Now, one of the newest rumors to make the rounds online says that Sidious may very well be living inside the broken helmet of Darth Vader.

According to Express, a new source suggests that Lucasfilm will reveal a scene where Kylo Ren is found sitting inside his chambers meditating on the floor. Holding Darth Vader's broken helmet in both of his hands, Kylo Ren hears a whisper in the distance speaking of ancient Sith Code. He then begins to hear laughter, feeling a power stronger than the Dark Side.

While this new report does sound interesting on its own, it sounds very unlikely that we'll find Palpatine's spirit in Vader's helmet. After all, the helmet's been around since Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Why didn't Palpatine make his presence felt then?

It seems more likely that we'll get to see Palpatine or what remains of him (possibly hologram recordings or what not) in the broken Death Star that Rey, Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) are bound to explore in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
