Star Wars: Episode IX Leak Describes Rey’s Jedi Father

Star Wars: Episode IX might be kept under wraps by Lucasfilm, but with the Star Wars movie currently in production, leaks continue to make their way online.

According to Express, one of the most recent leaks could reveal Rey's (Daisy Ridley) true father, a point of contention among Star Wars fans. Though Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealed Rey's parents to be nothing more than drunk junkers looking for drinking money, fans have been holding on to the hope that the Jakku Orphan's heritage could be something more than a subversion of fan expectations.

Now, a new description for Episode IX concept art says that a new image shows a young Rey sitting close to a fire on Jakku at night. While that might not seem like much, together with the young orphan is a man with a beige hood right over his head.

Holding Rey's hands, the man eventually hugs her, and according to the description, the next image for Episode IX shows the man without his hood on his head. "He has long brown hair tied in a ponytail that ends up the upper back. Clean shaven and waving at Rey before hopping on his speeder and leaving Rey."

Brown hood, brown hair, clean shaven? The man sounds a whole lot like a Jedi.

Though this description ought to be taken with a grain of salt, if the leak is proven true, then Episode IX could very well retcon the parentage that was given Rey in The Last Jedi. While that would appease fans looking for a connection between Rey and Star Wars legacy characters like Luke (Mark Hamill) and Obi-Wan Kenobi, it would break the message that TLJ was trying to convey – one that told fans that they didn't necessarily need to be "the one" to be a hero.
