Star Wars: Episode IX Filming Location Might Take Fans Back To Rogue One’s Jedha

Lucasfilm may be trying to keep Star Wars: Episode IX's secrets under wraps until the film premieres next year, however, with the project currently under production, photos and videos taken from the set continue to make their way online.

The newest batch of images come from a shooting location in Jordan, one that might connect The Last Jedi sequel to Gareth Edward's Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

A resident of Jordan just recently posted a series of photos on Reddit after driving past a film set that seemed a whole lot like one a set for a Star Wars movie.

Episode IX - Wadi Rum

Sharing the photos online, the Reddit user YenaMagana also described what it was like to pass by the area.

Here are some of the key details:

  • "Saw several rigs that were supposed to be some sort of landspeeders (one looked a lot like Rey's orange creamsicle speeder); these whizzed by rather quickly and I was not able to get a good photo.
  • "Pretty sure we saw Daisy Ridley (or perhaps another actress) getting a guided tour on a camel, with a heavy police escort.
  • "Drove past the film set you see in the photo album. There were all sorts of tents, a lot of cut-outs of alien figures (looked a lot like Neimoidians), and pylon-sort of things. Looked like Jakku.
  • "There is a big tent city with trailers, large MSU-style tents, and shipping containers. I am guessing this is where they construct a lot of the props, etc.
  • "While trying to leave Wadi Rum the next day, were told to take a different path as they were filming in a certain area using a lot of pyrotechnics (!!!)."

While some might name the desert location as a return to Jakku in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans ought to remember that Wadi Rum in Jordan was previously used to film scenes in Jedha back in Rogue One.

Of course, a return to Jedha may seem a bit unlikely considering the fact that Orson Krennic had the Death Star obliterate the Holy City, however, Jedha still very much exists in Star Wars' galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
