Star Wars Doubles Down On The Last Jedi And Anyone Using The Force

It looks like Star Wars is double-downing on Star Wars: The Last Jedi's anthem saying that the Force belongs to everyone.

The idea that the Force resides in all of living things isn't entirely new, but Rian Johnson's contentious Star Wars sequel trilogy entry was one of the film's that strongly championed the thought that the Force belongs to everyone – not just the Skywalker family. Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) first lesson to Rey (Daisy Ridley) on Ahch-To was the basic nature of the Force. According to the Star Wars legend, the Force existed in everyone and everything. The Jedi was wrong to think that only they could be connected to the Force.

Now, Marvel's Star Wars comics doubles down on the idea that anyone can be connected to the Force. In the 2018 Star Wars: Poe Dameron #26, readers are introduced to a scene set right after the events of The Last Jedi where Poe (Oscar Isaac), Rey, and Finn (John Boyega) exchange stories together.

Poe tries to share the surprising end of a battle, something that Rey says is the Force at work. When Poe dismisses the idea of himself being tied to the Force, Leia then joins the conversation, explaining the concept of the Force.

"Of course you have the Force, Poe. We all do. It's life's music, the song we make."

The idea of everyone being connected to the Force is exciting. This opens up an entire realm of possibility for the Star Wars franchise. The Force no longer belongs to a special few, but instead is inherently existing in every living thing.

Let's hope that Lucasfilm continues to explore the idea as it continues with Star Wars: Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
