It looks like Star Wars has decided to make the controversial name of the Sith homeworld canon again.
Before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, Star Wars lore became incredibly complex with an Expanded Universe made up of official tie-in novels, games, comics, handbooks, and all sorts of material. The Mickey Mouse House decided to take this Expanded Universe off the canon lore of the franchise completely, calling all of the franchise's non-film or television content part of Star Wars "Legends." Though most of the "Legends" lore still isn't considered part of the main franchise, Lucasfilm has slowly been bringing back a few of the best elements of the EU into cannon.
This includes the official name of the Sith Homeworld, Korriban.
According to Screen Rant, the name can now be found in Star Wars: Myths & Fables, a collection of Star Wars universe legends by George Mann. The book offers fans a lot of background information on the galaxy far, far away, and one of the fables features the canon name for the Sith homeworld, Moraband. The story reveals that the planet used to be known by other names like Korriban, a popular name for the planet in the EU.
"On the desolate planet Moraband, high on a weatherworn mountaintop, stands the statue of a robed Twi'lek," the text reads, "For a thousand years or more, since the ancient times when the world was known by the name Korriban..."
The name planet Korriban was introduced in the Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith 2: The Quest for the Sith by Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson. Korriban was a concept that George Lucas enjoyed, however, the Star Wars creator felt that the name was just a little too close to "Coruscant" so he renamed it "Moraband" in the Clone Wars series.
Now, it's interesting to see how Star Wars has slowly been acknowledging Legends.
