Star Wars’ Billie Lourd Honors Carrie Fisher’s Death Anniversary With Heartbreaking Song

Today marks the second year of Carrie Fisher's passing, and as Star Wars fans remember the Star Wars legend, her daughter Billie Lourd honors her mother with a touching and emotional song.

Taking to Instagram, Lourd dedicated a musical tribute to her mother, one of Star Wars biggest legends, remembering Carrie on the second year of her death anniversary. Carrie always loved to sing even before her career as an actor and as a writer.

Posting a video of a quiet performance on the social media site, Lourd reminds fans of one of Carrie's quotes: "take your broken heart and turn it into art."

"It has been two years since my Momby's death and I still don't know what the ‘right' thing to do on a death anniversary is (I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones)," Lourd wrote in her Instagram post. "So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together - sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favorite songs."

Of course, Carrie's inclination towards music barely comes as a surprise. The Star Wars legend's father was Eddie Fisher, one of the '50s most successful pop singers. Carrie loved singing and performed on stage together with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, back when she was younger.

Right now, Star Wars fans are eagerly waiting for Star Wars: Episode IX where they'll get to see Carrie again on the big screen. Episode IX was always meant to be a tribute to the Star Wars princess, however, the actress passed away at the age of 60 after suffering from a cardiac arrest on a commercial flight back in 2016. Fortunately, Lucasfilm managed to scrape together extra footage of the Star Wars legend for the film.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
