Star Wars Begins New Series with ‘Galaxy-Wide Disaster’

Star Wars fans might be excited to see the franchise move forward now that the Skywalker saga's finally come to an end, however, Lucasfilm is returning to the past with a new multimedia project called Star Wars: The High Republic.

A project that spans both books and comic books, The High Republic is set two centuries prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Releasing the project in 2021, Lucasfilm has been busy adding to the hype for its new project, offering IGN a preview of the first chapter of the Light of the Jedi, one of the very first books to kick off The High Republic.

Interestingly enough, it seems like Lucasfilm's new interconnected book and comic book project is going to begin with a catastrophe. The opening crawl of Light of the Jedi sets the book in a time in the High Republic era where Chancellor Lina Soh from Coruscant leads the Republic.

In the book, the ship the Legacy Run finds itself in the middle of a disaster. On its way to the Outer Rim with "more than nine thousand souls aboard," the ship suddenly encounters an obstacle in its hyperspace lane.

The ship's captain, Hedda Casset, manages to avoid the object, but the strain of the manoeuvre has the ship "tearing itself apart."

The destruction of the Legacy sets the tone for the book.

"The destruction of the Legacy Run is the catalyst for a galaxy-wide disaster. Fragments of the destroyed cargo vessel begin flying out of hyperspace at super-accelerated speeds, meaning that deadly missiles of debris can appear anywhere at any time," Soule wrote in Light of the Jedi.

Looks like there's going to be a lot of conflicts even at the highest point of the Jedi. We can't wait to see how the book manages to navigate this narrative.

Star Wars: The High Republic – Light of the Jedi is set for release on January 5, 2021.
