Star Wars Actor Giancarlo Esposito on Why Fans Need The Mandalorian Right Now

Star Wars: The Mandalorian might seem like a straightforward Star Wars series, however, according to series star Giancarlo Esposito, the show is more important now than ever.

In The Mandalorian, Esposito plays Moff Gideon, a remnant of the Imperial Forces who's been searching for Baby Yoda throughout the series. Speaking in an interview with Variety, the Breaking Bad star talks about the relevance of the show, saying that the hero's journey is something that viewers need to see in a time like this when COVID-19 ravages the planet.

According to Esposito, The Mandalorian gives Star Wars fans an example to look up to, showing everyone what service and duty to others looks like.

"The Mandalorian's iconic. It's a hero's journey, it's a hero's story, and people need heroes right now. We don't have heroes that we can look up to, so we gotta be each other's heroes," Esposito said during his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, "So that's what Mandalorian does for us. It allows us to stand up and see an example of someone just doing his duty in service to someone else and the journey."

This isn't the first time that Esposito's talked about The Mandalorian. The actor also recently teased updates to his character, hinting that Moff Gideon may actually have a connection with The Force.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian season 1 is available for streaming on Disney+.
