Star Trek: Picard May Have Cameos From The Next Generation Cast

It looks like Star Trek fans have new details about the upcoming Picard series.

It's been a while since CBS All Access released the very first teaser for Star Trek: Picard, and aside from a poster that revealed a cute doggy companion for Patrick Stewart's Jean Luc Picard, there's been very little information about the highly-anticipated series.

Of course, fans have been expecting major announcements and reveals to be made at Star Trek: Picard's panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. However, it seems like fans are being treated to a few early details about the series before the panel thanks to Entertainment Weekly's interview with the show's executive producer, Alex Kurtzman, and its showrunner, Michael Chabon.

During the interview, Kurtzman and Chabon both confirmed that unlike Star Trek: The Next Generation and its episodic structure, Picard would follow a serialized format, following the lines of CBS' latest release, Star Trek: Discovery.

This doesn't seem like quite a surprise since Star Trek has been making the shift to serialization the past few years. Of course, this isn't the only reveal. Kurtzman and Chabon also hinted that Picard's former crew on the Enterprise could also make cameo appearances in the series and that despite his retirement, the former Captain could also head back to space – though not necessarily as a member of the Starfleet.

We're hoping that CBS gives more details during the show's panel at this year's SDCC. If we're lucky, we might even get a full trailer.

Star Trek: Picard is set to premiere sometime later this year on CBS All Access.
