Star Trek: Discovery Bags First Award at Emmys

After two seasons of various Emmy nominations, it looks like Star Trek: Discovery has finally received its first Emmy Award at this week's Creative Emmy Awards presentation.

Star Trek: Discovery has been breathing fresh life into the Star Trek television franchise, and in 2018 the series received Emmy nominations for technical categories like Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) and for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special. The show didn't win anything though.

Now, Discovery finally has a win at the Emmy Awards, bagging the prize for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special (via ComicBook.com).

The award was won because of the show's season 2 episode, "If Memory Serves." The episode featured the Talosians, aliens that first appeared in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Menagerie." The Emmy award went to special makeup effects department heads Glenn Hetrick and James McKinnon, special makeup effects artists Hugo Villasenor, Chris Bridges, Rocky Faulkner, and Nicola Bendry, and prosthetic designers Neville Page and Mike O'Brien.

The Prosthetic Award wasn't the only recognition that Discovery's made this year. The series was also nominated for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Sound Editing, and Outstanding Main Title Design during this year's Emmy Awards.

Of course, this shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans. Discovery is a beautiful series, one that's received critical acclaim. This season has received great reviews from critics that find that that the latest batch of episodes has cleaned up the problematic storylines of the franchise's past.

The next season of Star Trek: Discovery is currently filming in Toronto.
