Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 Casting A Gender Non-Conforming High School Character

Marvel is certainly trying its best to add more diversity to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That Hashtag Show just recently discovered three new casting descriptions for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it looks like these new character descriptions suggest that Marvel is going to be adding three new high school-age characters in Homecoming 2.

Though we're not quite sure what kind of roles these high school-aged characters will be playing in the film, it looks like the casting call is searching for more diversity in Homecoming 2 with one casting description asking for an actor that's "an 18-22-year-old of any ethnicity, to play a gender non-conforming student."

The other two casting descriptions ask for an 18-26-year-old actress coming from "any ethnicity, preferably a character actor or comedienne," and an 18-25-year-old actor willing to play the role of " a charming and insanely likable" senior high schooler named Jason.

For those who aren't quite sure what a "gender non-conforming" individual is, the term actually means non-compliance to the rules of gender. People who are gender non-conforming present themselves with gender-free qualities and though the term doesn't have anything to do with sexuality, it does fall under the umbrella of the LGBTQ.

The addition of a gender non-conforming character in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 marks another win for diversity and representation knowing that these individuals have had little to no representation in mainstream media before. The most recent appearance of a gender non-conforming character in television has been on the recently-canceled Roseanne.

Marvel's latest release, Avengers: Infinity War, is currently screening in cinemas. Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 premieres on July 5, 2019.
