Spider-Man Actress Says She Feels She Has Less Room to Make Hollywood Mistakes

Being a woman in Hollywood is never easy. Actresses have to struggle to be taken seriously – not only do they have to deal with discrimination and harassment, they also have to break the glass ceiling.

The Hollywood Reporter just recently put together an online round table that had actresses Janelle Monae, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Helena Bonham Carter, Rose Byrne, and Zendaya all together.

The actresses were asked to open up about their experiences working in the Hollywood industry and Spider-Man: Far From Home actress Zendaya couldn't help but admit how she's felt like she has to work harder than others to avoid making mistakes.

According to the musician and actress, there's a whole lot of pressure on her as a Marvel star and as a young Black woman in the industry.

"It's a constant thing. Being a young Disney actor, that's one level, being a young Black woman is one level, and then being very hard on myself is another level. It's also just a personal fear. I want to do a good job, and sometimes that can cause you to be fearful of things," Zendaya said during the roundtable.

Despite the pressure, Zendaya says that she wants to push through and continue her work in the industry.

"But I will say that there's something that happens when a special character comes along, for me at least, and those fears melt away," the actress explained. "They don't come back until it starts airing, which is when I started to get a little scared again. (Laughter.) But now, I'm excited to go back because the motivation is to work harder and become a better actress. I just want to get better."

Interestingly enough, for those who haven't been following the actress closely, Zendaya started out as a Disney Channel child star, appearing in shows like KC Undercover and Shake it Up. Now the actress stars as MJ in Marvel's Spider-Man movies.

Zendaya's definitely been on the top of her game the past few years, and we can't wait to see what she does in the future.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is set to release on July 16, 2021.
