Sony on Spider-Man After His MCU Trilogy

Sony and Disney might have managed to agree on keeping Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a couple more years, however, the studios have yet to discuss what to do with the web-slinger after the contract comes to an end.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Sony executives Alan Horn and Tom Rothman were asked questions about the deal that the studios came to so that Spider-Man could stay in the MCU for a tad bit longer. During the interview, the studio execs were asked whether the partnership between the Mickey Mouse House and Sony would continue after Marvel completes its Spider-Man trilogy with THR noting that Sony has shown what they can dow with Spider-Man without Marvel's help.

"Yes, we have. But I agree with my distinguished colleague. This was a classic win-win-win. A win for Sony, a win for Disney, a win for the fans. The only thing I would say is that news cycles and the rhythm of negotiations do not necessarily overlap. And this is, in the words of Shakespeare, a consummation devoutly to be wished. We would have gotten there, and the news got ahead of some things," Rothman explains.

The studio executive doesn't really explain what Sony and Disney have planned after the deal comes to an end, but for now, it seems like fans ought to enjoy Holland's extension in the MCU. Who knows, the actor might get a few more years in the Marvel franchise once the deal between the two companies expires. Even if he doesn't, there's still a lot more that Holland can do in Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters with films like Morbius and Venom 2.
