Sony Loses Its Director For Uncharted Movie Starring Tom Holland

It looks like Sony has more bad news on the way. After failing to come to an agreement with Disney regarding Spider-Man's stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, word has it that Sony has just lost the director for its live-action adaptation of the videogame franchise, Uncharted, a project that's set to feature Spider-Man: Far From Home star, Tom Holland.

According to a report by Deadline,Uncharted director Dan Trachtenberg decided to leave the project for currently unknown reasons. Discussions are underway to find a new filmmaker to replace him for the project, and Deadline's sources say that Sony hopes to nab a new director for the project by the end of the summer.

Of course, this isn't the first time that a director left the Uncharted film project. Back in 2018, Shawn Levy was announced as the film's director, however, the filmmaker eventually left his position as the helmsman of the project.

Despite these many shifts, word has it that Holland is still attached to star in the Uncharted movie. The Marvel star is set to play a younger version of the videogame series' protagonist, Nathan Drake.

Right now we don't really know much about what kind of story the Uncharted movie might feature, but we have a feeling that it's going to be an adventure much like Indiana Jones. After all, the Uncharted videogame is an adventure game franchise.

Though there's still no word about a release date alteration in the wake of losing its director, the Uncharted movie still seems to be set for release on December 18, 2020.
