Rey’s Sith Dagger May Play an Important Role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Lucasfilm dropped the very first full trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this Monday, and since then, Star Wars fans have been carefully reviewing footage to learn more about the third and final entry in Star Wars new sequel trilogy.

The trailer has a lot of pretty great scenes, but one moment that's captured fans' interest is when viewers get to see Rey (Daisy Ridley) cracking the shrine dedicated to Darth Vader together with the help of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). In this scene, we get to see Rey and Ren holding their lightsabers – however, if fans look close enough they can see the Jakku Orphan carrying a dagger with her as well.

According to Screen Rant, the handle of the weapon has a design that strongly resembles that of a Shikkar, a Sith dagger that exists in Star Wars' Expanded Universe. Though some Sith used the blades for decoration, it seems like Shikkars were made traditionally as assassination tools.

Could this be the weapon that Rey takes with her in the battle against Emperor Palpatine? The video has also been teasing Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) assuming a physical form in the film, and many believe that Rey and Kylo Ren come together to defeat a fully resurrected Darth Sidious.

Of course, as with any Star Wars rumor/ theory, we advise fans to take this report with a grain of salt. We can't really be sure what kind of dagger Rey is bringing until Lucasfilm confirms the weapon. Let's just wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
