Trekkies might not have to debate over whether or not Quentin Tarantino should make the next Star Trek movie after all because it looks like the filmmaker has been casting doubt on his Star Trek project.

Speaking in an interview with Deadline this week to discuss the 10 Oscar nominations given to his most recent film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino got to talking about his upcoming Star Trek movie, and according to the film auteur, he might not be pursuing the Star Trek pitch that he made to Paramount anymore.

While the director is confident that his pitch is still going to get turned into a Star Trek movie and that he might be able to work on the project in some capacity, Tarantino doubts that he’s going to sit in the director’s chair.

"I think they might make that movie, but I just don't think I’m going to direct it," Tarantino said. "It's a good idea. They should definitely do it and I'll be happy to come in and give them some notes on the first rough cut."

This must come as a surprise to Star Trek fans. Tarantino seemed so certain about his Star Trek movie despite the debates whether or not his style fits the long-running science-fiction franchise. Still, fans do have to remember that Tarantino had always said that he had plans to retire after directing his tenth movie. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is the filmmaker’s ninth feature, so the director’s only got one movie left until he retires.
