Petition To Keep Spider-Man In Marvel Reaches More Than 83K Signatures

There was a lot of heartbreak when word came out that Sony's Spider-Man deal with Disney fell out completely. Fans just couldn't imagine a Marvel Cinematic Universe without Tom Holland's version of Spidey ever since the hero was introduced into the franchise in Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man has played a lot of major roles in the franchise, not only as a hero but as Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) mentee.

While some have been busy trying to assess who really was to take the blame for the failed negotiations between Sony and Disney, some fans have also been trying to take the matter in their own hands by starting a petition to keep Spider-Man in the MCU.

Making the rounds on Change.org, the petition titled "Keep Spider-Man with Disney and the MCU" has been after word came out about Sony and Disney's split and in that short time, it has managed to gather more than 83,000 signatures for the cause.

"After the news today that Sony walked away from their deal with Disney, I cannot in good faith stand by while Spider-man and his fans around the world become collateral damage," reads the description of the petition, "Spider-man in the MCU has brought some of the best moments in modern cinema history. SONY you must let go of this property or renegotiate with Disney to keep all of the fans happy."

Of course, the petition won't really help much seeing how Disney and Sony ultimately have the final word in the matter. Both studios know how much Spider-Man staying in the MCU means to the fanbase, but in the end, it's all really about the money.

We'll just have to cross our fingers, wait, and see whether Sony tries to renegotiate with Disney so that Holland's Spider-Man stays where it belongs.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to receive its Digital release sometime in October this year.
