Trekkies aren't going to be happy with this new report because it looks like Paramount Studios has given up on working on Star Trek 4 as of the moment, shelving the project for an unspecified amount of time.
Deadline has the latest update on the troubled production of Star Trek 4 and it seems like the project has been officially shelved by Paramount. Last year, the film lost lead stars Chris Pine (James T. Kirk) and Chris Hemsworth (George Samuel Kirk, Sr) after salary negotiations with the studio fell through. While the rest of the film's cast and crew were hoping that Paramount would be able to fix things with the DC and Marvel star, the production of the film was put on a hold.
Now, the director attached to Star Trek 4, S.J. Clarkson, has decided to move on out from the project so that he could work on the pilot for the prequel of Game of Thrones, HBO's smash hit fantasy epic.
Clarkson was originally announced as the director for the fourth Star Trek installment back in April 2018. If things went about differently, she would have actually been the Star Trek franchise's first female director.
This, of course, is especially disappointing for fans. The second installment in Paramount's newest series of Star Trek movies, Into Darkness, had been a particularly strong film for fans. So was the third film, Star Trek: Beyond. While many had hoped that they'd get to see Kirk, Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and the rest of the crew of the USS Enterprise, it seems like that might not be happening at all.
We can only hope that Paramount picks up the project again sometime in the near future.
