Palpatine May Be Replaced By Overlooked Star Wars Villain

Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's closed the curtain on the Skywalker saga, there's been a lot of talk about what Lucasfilm has planned for the Star Wars franchise. Not only have fans been discussing potential timelines that the studio could explore in future Star Wars films, they've also been talking about characters that could take Palpatine's place as the main villain of the galaxy far, far away.

While Lucasfilm has yet to announce its plans for the Star Wars film franchise, there's been a lot of talk about how Grand Admiral Thrawn would be a perfect movie villain for Star Wars.

According to a report by Inverse, there has been increasing speculation that Thrawn will finally make his live-action debut in the years to come. Now that Star Wars is moving on to a new phase of the franchise, fans are hoping to see Thrawn make it to the big screen.

For those who aren't familiar with the character, Thrawn is a terrifying military strategist who made his way up the ranks of the Empire, an organization that discriminates against species that aren't human. The creation of Timothy Zahn, Thrawn was originally born into Star Wars Legends. Because of his popularity, Lucasfilm decided to incorporate the character into Star Wars canon, introducing him in Star Wars: Rebels.

Though the character could very well appear in episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Captain Cassian Andor Disney+ series, Inverse suggests that it would do well to allow the character to appear on the big screen in a movie that covers the in-betweens of the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Order.
