Original Star Wars: Episode IX Director Jokes About Thwarted Plans For The Movie

Hype for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker couldn't be any higher. Lucasfilm dropped the very first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX during the 2019 Star Wars Celebration in Chicago last weekend, and fans went crazy over the teaser's different reveals. Not only did the video reveal the remains of the second death star, but it also teased the potential return of a fan-favorite villain, Palpatine.

Fans weren't the only ones celebrating The Rise of Skywalker's teaser. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson took to Twitter to gush over the footage. Previous Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow also cracked a joke, taking to the social media platform to "complain" about J.J. Abram's work.

"WHY DO YOU GUYS KEEP SPOILING MY PLANS," the Jurassic World director wrote on his post sharing the teaser for The Rise of Skywalker.

It's pretty interesting seeing Trevorrow joking about The Rise of Skywalker. The director was first hired to helm the third and final film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, however, he was fired back in 2017. Though Lucasfilm never really disclosed the reason behind the separation, word had it that Trevorrow was let go from the project because the studio wasn't satisfied with the drafts of the script that he had been sending.

Lucasfilm could have gone with Johnson, but instead the studio gave The Last Jedi director his own trilogy and then handed down Episode IX to Abrams. There hasn't been that much drama on set of Episode IX (or at least not that we've heard of) since then.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
