Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Reportedly in Trouble with Poor Scripts and Low Compensation

There might have been a whole lot of hullabaloo when Lucasfilm officially announced its plans to develop an Obi-Wan Kenobi television series for Disney+ in August last year, but since it's made the announcement, the studio's made very few updates about the project.

In January this year, rumors from industry sites like Collider and The Hollywood Reporter began circulating saying that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series had been indefinitely delayed because Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was unhappy with the show's scripts.

Now, according to a report by We Got This Covered, new sources close to Lucasfilm say that the studio still isn't happy with how the project is coming together. While the project may have seen King Arthur: Legend of the Sword writer Joby Harold taking on scripting duties sometime in April this year after the departure of Hossein Amini, Lucasfilm still isn't impressed with the results so far.

Interestingly enough, Lucasfilm isn't the only one disappointed in the project. We Got This Covered sources say that the crew of Obi-Wan Kenobi is also underwhelmed by how much Disney is paying the team. Despite the high-profile nature of the project, the House of Mouse isn't paying the crew that much because of the financial struggles the company has been facing in light of COVID-19.

Production is still expected to start on schedule, however, with so much tension on both sides, we can only wonder what might happen to the series. Let's hope that Lucasfilm manages to settle all these issues before principal photography begins.

The Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
