New Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Tries To Connect Rey And Palpatine

It's a new day and that only means one thing for Star Wars fans waiting for Lucasfilm to talk more about what the studio has planned for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – there's a new Star Wars theory that's making the rounds online.

While Lucasfilm has been trying its best to keep quiet to help keep the wraps around Episode IX's secrets, there has been no shortage of wild Star Wars theories going around online. Some talk about Rey's (Daisy Ridley) origin. Some talk about Palpatine's expected return.

Now, a new Star Wars theory tries to help explain Rey's origin, tying it together with Palpatine's return.

According to this new theory which has been going around on Reddit, Palpatine had a contingency plan detailing what he might do if he died. The Emperor was obsessed with immortality, and according to one key scene in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Palpatine spent most of his life looking for eternal life.

"Palpatine had a contingency plan. I believe the First Order is just that, the "first order" of events to be carried out should Palpatine be overthrown. As the recent MSW leak indicates, Palpatine has an elite fleet of troopers and ships in the Unknown Regions waiting to be activated. I believe that all of the First Order's troops and weapons/equipment have been created here, which explains how they have such a robust army even though the Republic had been reinstated. Palpatine always had this contingency plan waiting in the Unknown Regions. This also explains why the Sith Troopers have FO design and not OT trooper design."

It really isn't a new theory. There have been so many trying to tie Palpatine and Rey together. Some of the wildest theories even suggest that Rey might be a female clone of Palpatine – something that seems highly unlikely to be true.

Of course, we can never really know until Episode IX premieres.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
