New Mutants Star Maisie Williams Addresses Rumors About The Film’s Delay

There have been a whole lot of rumors about The New Mutants ever since the comic book movie was first delayed by 20th Century Fox a few years ago. Fans talked about the film's potential reshoots and rewrites that could change the film. They talked about new characters to be added to the superhero movie. They talked about a series decline in the quality of the film.

Now that The New Mutants is finally out of its limbo, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams dispels the rumors surrounding the film. Speaking with members of the press during Sky's Up Next (via ComicBook.com), Williams addressed the rumors about The New Mutants delay.

According to the actress, the film's delay had less to do with the quality of the film and more to do with the merger between Disney and 20th Century Fox.

"It's been a long time coming, we shot it many years ago, but I'm really proud of it finally coming out," Williams told entertainment news outlets, "It was a lot to do with the merger, I think it [the film] had a really bad rep and people thought there was going to be something wrong with it, but I honestly think it was just really badly affected by something that was out of our control."

Disney had to hold The New Mutants back because it had to complete its merger with 21st Century Fox. Now that the studio has that settled, it looks like the X-Men spinoff can finally release.

There's a whole lot of excitement building up over the film. The film might promise a horror-filled X-Men movie, but everyone's eager to see what the film promises the mutant film franchise.

The New Mutants is set for release on April 2, 2020.
