Netflix Account Sharing Could Come To An End With New Technology Coming Into Development

In a world where great shows and movies are dispersed around different streaming sites, friends and family members sometimes come together to share one Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and other streaming accounts to save money.

However, it seems like this little money-saving trick isn't going to work that much longer.

Video software provider Synamedia attended this year's Consumer Electronic's Show (CES) and according to the Daily Mail the company revealed new tech that would put an end to streaming account sharing. The AI-powered system by Synamedia tracks down and analyzes which users are logged in at different locations at around the globe, flagging down accounts that are being shared by individuals.

Research done by Magid revealed that more than 26 percent of millennials were sharing their personal Netflix accounts, creating a massive loss in revenue for the streaming company. Further studies by Parks Associates also revealed that if the matter went on unresolved then by 2021 subscribers sharing account could cost the company $9.9 billion in losses for its streaming revenues and $1.2 billion in OTT revenues.

Working on this data, Snyamedia created its AI-powered system, its technology figuring out where these fraudulent activities are coming from and tracking accounts that are being shared.

"Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore,' Synamedia CPO Jean-Marc Racine said during the event. "Our new solution gives operators the ability to take action. Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium, shared service with a greater number of concurrent users. It's a great way to keep honest people honest while benefiting from an incremental revenue stream."

It's going to be a tough ride for millennials trying to save money on media, but Netflix will be forced to implement this new system if it wants to create better content for the site.
