Natalie Portman Admits She Had No Idea She Would Be Thor

It looks like Marvel fans weren't the only ones who were surprised when Marvel announced that Natalie Portman would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. As it turns out, the Thor: Dark World star didn't know that she was going to ever play the Asgardian God of Thunder either.

Portman just recently went on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to talk about her new role in the MCU. In the interview with Fallon, the actress revealed that she was also shocked when she learned that she would become Marvel's new Thor.

"I did not know. I mean I was aware that there was a storyline, but I didn't know that they were actually planning on doing that in the movies," Portman told Fallon.

No one really expected Marvel to explore the Mighty Thor comics after Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Chris Hemsworth's Thor revealed that he had broken things off with Jane Foster. No one was really expecting Foster to make any other appearance after that – the last time that Jane was seen in the MCU was in Thor: Dark World.

Now Portman is making her way back into the franchise, and this time as Marvel's New Asgardian God of Thunder. Everyone's excited because this is the very first time that we'll get to see a female Thor on the big screen. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is going to be in charge of Love and Thunder too, so we're sure that we're going to get a wild and exciting story.

Thor: Love and Thunder premieres on November 5, 2021.
