Marvel TV Admitted It Was 'Blindsided' By Netflix’s Decision To Cancel Its Shows

There was a whole lot of heartache when Netflix decided to cancel its Marvel TV shows last year. Fans weren't expecting Netflix to ax all of its series so soon, not when the recent seasons of shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Jessica Jones received positive reviews from fans and critics.

Now, almost a year after the cancellations, Marvel Television President Jeph Loeb admits that he and the network's producers were actually "blindsided" when Marvel decided to put its Marvel shows on the chopping board.

Speaking in an interview with Deadline, Loeb opens up about the cancellations, admitting that the "hardest part" of the Netflix situation is something that Marvel TV "really can't go into other than to say that we were blindsided" and that "the things that were to come weren't finished yet."

That part is obvious – Daredevil showrunner Erik Oleson was so ready for Netflix to greenlight another batch of episodes for the series. In fact, soon after the release of season 3 of the series, Oleson went down to Netflix to pitch season 4, only to learn soon after that the streaming site was canceling the show.

"We weren't ready to announce that, so there was this space in between it, so it did look like maybe we were going to go out," Loeb said. "Then suddenly, we were arising again like the Phoenix."

Such a shame what happened to Marvel TV's different Netflix series. Hopefully, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders all find a new home in a different platform or in a different streaming site.
