Marvel Reportedly Planning to Recast Iron Man in the MCU

While Marvel fans find it difficult to imagine the Marvel Cinematic Universe without Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), there's no way that Marvel Studios will bring back Tony Stark from the dead after the sacrifice that he made in Avengers: Endgame.

Now that Marvel is preparing to move forward with Phase 4 of the MCU, rumors about Iron Man have begun to circulate online. One of the most recent reports on the rumor mill suggests that Marvel is planning to cast a new Iron Man, replacing Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel film franchise.

According to a report by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Marvel is planning to introduce a new slate of heroes in Phase 4 of the MCU, and many of these characters are going to play important roles in future Marvel movies. This includes a Secret War movie that will introduce a younger Tony Stark into the MCU – one that comes from a completely different universe.

The entertainment news outlet is still unsure how Marvel is going to introduce this younger Iron Man into the franchise, however, sources close to the studio say that the hero will eventually team up with other heroes introduced in Phase 4.

While we advise readers to take this report with a grain of salt (as with all rumors), we can't rule out the idea of an alternate universe Iron Man appearing in the MCU. After all, Marvel is exploring alternate universes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Phase 4 of the MCU is set to begin when Black Widow premieres on May 4, 2020.
