Marvel President Kevin Feige Hints At Shang-Chi In The MCU During Avengers: Endgame Press Event

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been going around promoting Avengers: Endgame. Attending a press event for the film in China, the Marvel Studios producer has again hinted at a movie for Shang-Chi, Marvel Comics' "Master of Kung Fu."

Speaking with journalists during the press event for Endgame, Feige was asked if there would ever be a Chinese superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (via Heroic Hollywood).

"This is not an Endgame question, this is a question about the future. I'm not supposed to answer questions about the future but in this case, I will because the answer is yes," the Marvel producer responded.

Marvel has been making strides in terms of diversity and representation, seeing major success in films like Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Now, as Endgame approaches its release, Marvel plans to increase its inclusivity, developing films like Black Widow, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi.

For those who aren't familiar with the character, Shang-Chi is a hero who was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin. Introduced in Special Marvel Edition#15 way back in December 1973, Shang-Chi is presented as an extraordinary martial artist raised in an isolated compound in China. Trained by his father Fu Manchu, an immortal sorcerer who's repeatedly tried his hand at conquering the world, Shang-Chi is allowed to explore the outside world where he learns about his father's capacity for evil. Eventually, Shang-Chi fakes his own death and then goes on a mission to take down his own father's criminal empire.

Right now, Shang-Chi has yet to receive a release date, however, Marvel already has Destin Daniel Cretton directing the film from a script written by Dave Callaham.
