Avengers: Endgame is making its way to cinemas this year. Not only is the film the second installment in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie, but it also serves as the culmination of the first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, while all eyes are set on what happens to Captain America (Chris Evans) and the rest of the Avengers in Endgame, some have been wondering what Marvel plans to do with the MCU. A new leak suggests some pretty big changes to the franchise.
According to a new post on Reddit, Marvel is planning to overhaul the MCU once Endgame premieres in cinemas. The MCU will no longer have any phases but will instead be split into two different and distinct categories – street level films, and cosmic movies. Marvel also plans to make use of Disney's merger with 21st Century Fox, bringing in the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the fold.
This is going to be a key part of the new arrangement in the MCU because according to this leak, the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom would serve as links between street level narrative arcs and cosmic stories.
"The movies won't always be linear, either. Some will be prequels, like Eternals and Black Widow, and some will be flash-forwards," the leak continues, "Spider-Man Far From Home will kick off the main story arc for the street level side. The overarching villain will be Norman Osborn. Big storylines will be Dark Avengers, Dark Reign and Siege."
The leak goes on to say that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to set up the cosmic side of the franchise – though it seems like the job is being placed on the Eternals now. This doesn't seem like much of a stretch considering the fact that Marvel's always been working on its cosmic universe and it once had James Gunn to help build that side of the franchise.
