Marvel May Have Originally Wanted Amanda Seyfried As Gamora

Zoe Saldana might have enjoyed a pretty big role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring as the Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora, however, it seems like the role was once actually extended to Mean Girls star, Amanda Seyfried.

Speaking in an interview with MTV International to help promote her new movie, The Art of Racing in the Rain, Amanda Seyfried was asked if she would ever want to find herself in a comic book movie. Being as candid as she could, the Mamma Mia! star said that she had once been contacted for a role. When she turned down the part, she says that she was never called back by the studio.

"I turned down [a superhero movie] once and they haven't called back since. And it was a big'un. I don't regret it because I didn't want to be green for six months out of every year," the actress revealed, "They tell beautiful stories through superheroes, and my daughter's now really obsessed with superheroes now, and part of me wishes I'd done it, but the other part of me is like ‘I had a life to live' and I don't think I would've been happy."

Though Seyfried doesn't really name Gamora specifically, the actress did tell MTV International that the part was big and that it would have made her put on green makeup for about six months in a year during the film's production. Many theorize that Seyfried meant that the role was for Gamora, a character which Zoe Saldana has been putting on make-up for in the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise and in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

While passing on Gamora was certainly a missed opportunity, working on films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can take a whole lot of commitment.

Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD.
