Marvel Comic Book Writer On Lee’s Visit 48 Hours Before His Passing

It looks like Stan Lee kept himself busy even before he passed away back on Monday this week. The legendary Marvel comic book writer, editor, and publisher has visited Roy Thomas a little over a day before his passing and now it looks like the comic book writer's decided to open up about the time that he spent with Lee back on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview with Bleeding Cool, Thomas opened up about the half-hour that he had talking with Lee last weekend, less than 48 hours before the pop culture icon passed away on Monday morning this week. According to the comic book writer, Lee sounded like he was "more than ready to leave this Earth."

"I'm sadder than I can say that Stan has died," Thomas told the publication. "Even though I know, from my recent phone conversations with him, that he was more than ready to leave this Earth. I'm so grateful that, by sheer circumstance, I got to spend a half hour or so with him this past Saturday, less than 48 hours before he passed away."

Speaking with Lee, the Golden age comic book writer and editor could see that the comic book legend was lacking the same zest that he was known for. Still, Marvel's cameo king couldn't help but remain passionate about the films that he'd be appearing in.

"At that time, it was obvious that he lacked much of the old Stan Lee energy that everybody had got to know at conventions and in movie cameos," Thomas recalled. "But when I asked him about future cameos, he expressed a real interest in making them, if he could find a way to do it without there being too much trouble."

Comic book readers and enthusiasts might be familiar with Thomas. The Marvel comic book writer was Lee's first successor as the Editor-in-Chief of the House of Ideas back in 1972. He was a champion of Golden Age comic book heroes, especially for the Justice Society of America, the X-Men, and the Avengers. Thomas is also an inductee of the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
