Marvel And Star Wars Get Beaten By Pokemon And Hello Kitty As Highest-Grossing Franchises

Marvel might seem to be dominating the comic book movie universe with films like Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, however, it seems like a few anime franchises still beat both the Marvel and Star Wars franchise with the money it earns from video games, films, and merchandise.

A chart that's been circulating on Reddit has been giving fans a report of media's different highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The list combines all of the earnings in the franchise, from videogames, comics, TV, music, merchandise, and films. In the list, the most successful franchise goes out to Pokemon, mostly because of its merchandise and then its videogames and trading cards. The next go to the Hello Kitty franchise which earns mostly from its merchandise and Winnie The Pooh which grosses at $75 billion and earns the same way.

Star Wars comes in fifth, earning its place thanks to its merchandise, box office, and home entertainment. The Marvel Cinematic Universe comes in 12th place with its gross total coming up to $29 billion.

These shouldn't really come as a surprise to either Marvel or to Star Wars fans. While both franchises have been dominating Western Media for the past few years, franchises like Pokemon have been dominating since forever, and they have a pretty strong toy line to boot.

There are a few shockers though, like Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh dominating the race, staying clear above Star Wars and the Mickey Mouse Animated short.
