Mark Wahlberg in Final Talks With Sony for Sully Role in Uncharted

Earlier this week, word came out that Sony has been trying to recruit Mark Wahlberg in its live-action adaptation of Uncharted.

Now, according to a report by Variety, discussions between the studio and the Pain and Gain star is coming to an end. Wahlberg is now in final talks to co-star with Avengers: Endgame's Tom Holland in the adaptation of Uncharted, an action-adventure third-person shooter video game series by Naughty Dog.

Wahlberg is set to play Victor "Sully" Sullivan, a fortune seeker, businessman, and treasure hunter who serves as a mentor, friend, and father figure to the lead character, Nathan Drake. Drake is set to be played b Holland, the actor who made the pitch for the movie in the first place.

News about Wahlberg being cast as the new Sully comes as a surprise to many because the actor was originally set to play Drake a few years ago when Sony had David O. Russell direct the adaptation. The project, however, fell apart, and now it looks like Wahlberg is taking on a different role in the new Uncharted movie.

Set to release in December 2020, Uncharted is being directed by Bumblebee's Travis Knight. The movie follows the adventures of a younger version of Nathan Drake as he becomes the treasure hunter that gamers have come to love.

The new story is reportedly inspired by Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, an entry in the franchise which features the life of a young Nathan Drake who starts off as a thief. The story focuses on Drake's encounter with Sullivan.

Uncharted is set to premiere on December 18, 2020.
