Mark Hamill Comments On Fans Hoping For A Young Luke Skywalker Standalone

Lucasfilm has been busy building the Star Wars universe, adding on to the Skywalker family saga with a new sequel trilogy and supplementing the franchise with a few Star Wars spinoff movies like Gareth Edward's Rogue One.

Planning to add more spinoffs, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told the press back in April that the studio would be detailing the next Star Wars movie outside of the Skywalker saga and ever since then fans have been busy deciding whether they'd like a spinoff based on Bobba Fett or a movie centered around Obi-Wan Kenobi.

However, in the midst of the debate on whether a movie for Bobba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi would do the Star Wars franchise a better service, some fans have begun petitioning for a Luke Skywalker standalone instead. Unfortunately, it seems like Luke himself isn't entirely certain that a standalone would ever happen.

Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Star Wars Legend Mark Hamill was asked by Anna Faris about how long he'd be playing Luke in the galaxy far, far away. Hamill then opened up about fans suggesting a spinoff based on a young Luke Skywalker.

"Someone said to me, ‘You know, they're making a young Han Solo film. Are you going to make a young Luke Skywalker movie?'"

"I thought, ‘Boy, what a boring film that would be.' It would be me on the farm at age twelve or something. The whole point of the original film was that he never had any sort of experience like that. I don't think there's [a reason]."

Hamill's right – before the events of A New Hope, Luke was a simple farm boy who's hardly traveled at all. The most exciting time the young Luke's probably ever had was going off to pick up some power converters at Tosche Station. It wasn't until he happened on R2-D2 and C-3PO that life changed for Luke and all of that's been documented in the main Star Wars movies. Give the spinoff to another Star Wars character.

Which Star Wars character would you like to see getting their own spinoff? Grand Admiral Thrawn? Obi-Wan Kenobi? Darth Vader? Mara Jade? Dash Rendar? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
