Luke Skywalker’s New Explanation of the Force Denounces Old Star Wars Misconceptions

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have experienced some backlash from more traditional Star Wars fans, however, the film reintroduced the concept of the Force in such a profound way that most fans couldn't help but agree with how the Force was repackaged.

Now, Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren adds a bit of emphasis on Luke's explanation of the Force in The Last Jedi, tearing down phrases like "the Force is powerful with this one" and "powerful with the Force."

In the comic book series (via CBR), fans get to see a young Ben Solo training under Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force. Ben isn't alone. Luke is training other Force users alongside the son of Han Solo and Leia.

One of Ben's compatriots is a trainee named Voe who defines herself in comparison to Luke Skywalker's nephew. The trainee tries to outdo Ben at every turn, only to find herself frustrated by his superior skill at almost everything.

Luke then teaches Voe the true meaning of the Force.

"Ben isn't stronger," the Jedi master tells the trainee, "That's not how it works. The Force can be a trickle, a stream, a river, a flood...for anyone who can sense it."

To Luke, people are just doors to the Force.

"The wider you open, the more easily the Force flows through you. Some people just start out with their door a bit more open, but any door can open wide," Luke goes on explaining.

This explanation fits right in with how the Force is treated in The Last Jedi where the Force can be found everywhere – accessible to anyone who tries to reach for it.
