Lucasfilm Still Isn’t Letting Fans Know What Star Wars: Episode IX Is Really About

There might be numerous leaks and theories revolving around Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Star Wars fans don't really know much about the highly-anticipated Star Wars entry. Sure, we all know that Episode IX is going to serve both as the final chapter in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy as well as the final entry in the Skywalker saga, but we know very little about the film's actual premise.

The Wrap has a new article lamenting about how strange it is that we don't really know what The Rise of Skywalker actually is going to be about. Lucasfilm has yet to release a full synopsis for the movie, though it does describe Episode IX as a continuation of Rey's journey and a conclusion to the Skywalker saga on the official website for the franchise.

According to The Wrap, while it's clear that the characters who survived Star Wars: The Last Jedi are clearly going to appear in Episode IX along with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) who's most likely set to return as a Force Ghost and Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) who's making a reprisal after being long dead, Lucasfilm hasn't really let fans know what anyone's really going to do in the film. After the events of The Last Jedi, fans can tell that the Resistance is set to make a stand against the First Order, but the studio has given very few details about the mission set in the film. Perhaps they're afraid of spoilers.

Whatever the reason, we're hoping that Lucasfilm gives more when it begins marketing Episode IX in earnest.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
