Lucasfilm Names Another Female Leader For Its Live-Action Star Wars Movies

It looks like Lucasfilm is taking a few cues from the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing someone to oversee the operation of the studio's live action development. Earlier this week, Lucasfilm announced that it had named Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan as the senior vice president of live action development and production at the studio. Together with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Rejwan is now a powerful female leader at the studio.

According to Polygon, Rejwan used to work as a producer in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. She first started producing together with director J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot. She first started with Super 8 as an associate producer and then continued on as co-producer for Star Trek Into Darkness. She also become Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-producer in 2015. Now she's also producing Abram's second Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Given that she's had quite the experience in production, it doesn't come as a surprise that Lucasflm would name Rejwan as the head of live action development at the studio.

The producer's new role within the company will include seeing to "all theatrical and direct-to-consumer live-action content" for Star Wars. Not only that, but Rejwan will be working together with Kennedy to "shape and implement the creative strategy for Star Wars."

This means that together with Kennedy, Rejwan will have a direct hand in the franchise – a first in the history of Lucasfilm ever since the company's acquisition by Disney in 2012.

Let's see how Rejwan's new position will improve Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
