Lucasfilm Expected To Announce Star Wars: Episode IX Title This Week

Star Wars fans' hopes of seeing Star Wars: Episode IX's highly anticipated teaser at this year's NFL Super Bowl game might have been dashed, but it looks like everyone's started looking forward to the film's title reveal this week. While Lucasfilm has yet to confirm the announcement, fans have started expecting some major Star Wars news thanks to clues left online.

According to a report by Express, evidence of a potential Episode IX title reveal has started stacking and fans are eagerly waiting for an announcement from Lucasfilm.

Yesterday, legendary C-3PO star Anthony Daniels posted on Twitter a cryptic message that seemingly teased exciting news for everyone. While the Star Wars actor didn't explicitly name Star Wars in his tweet, many suspects that Daniels is pointing towards an Episode IX title reveal. After all, Lucasfilm did drop the title for Episode VIII in January of 2016. If we're to follow the same trajectory, then we're long overdue for a title reveal for the third and final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Not only that, but other signs pointing towards major Star Wars news is Disney's quarterly earnings call today, the return of The Star Wars Show, and the anticipated end of Episode IX's principal photography. With the film expected to complete production soon, shouldn't Lucasfilm be thinking of releasing the film's title, at least?

Sure, this waiting game might be driving up the hype for Episode IX, but a major announcement like a title reveal would be a great reminder to the general public that the film is making its way to cinemas this December.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
